In December 2022, I joined a national conversation on Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) at the inaugural PTG Summit in Washington, D.C., hosted by the Boulder Crest Foundation. The summit brought together nonprofit leaders, researchers, first responders, and clinicians from across the country who share one belief: Struggle can lead to strength—if the right supports are in place. The group shared a collective desire for PTG to become a resource with its own moderated institute of learning and guidance, serving as a reliable driving force for healing trauma.

Guided by the founding inspiration of Ken Falke, the research of Dr. Richard Tedeschi, and the strategic vision of CEO Josh Goldberg, Boulder Crest Foundation has emerged as a national leader in transforming trauma into strength through the proven science of Posttraumatic Growth. Boulder Crest has developed a robust model that helps veterans, first responders, and their families not only recover from trauma but also grow because of it. Their success lies in translating decades of research into practical, life-changing programs that are now being scaled across the country.

At One Summit, our mission to build resilience and facilitate growth in children with cancer through meaningful relationships with Navy SEALs reflects the PTG framework. We believe, as Boulder Crest does, that adversity can be a catalyst for growth. Through shared challenges, authentic connections, and a sense of purpose, we empower pediatric cancer patients, their siblings, and their mentors to discover the strength they may not have known they had. Both organizations recognize that healing doesn't mean returning to who you were before—it means becoming stronger because of what you've been through.

The work of Boulder Crest is a compelling example of what's possible when science, service, and community come together. Their programs are not only changing individual lives but shaping a national conversation about how we support people through trauma. I encourage you to review a collection of the most recent, relevant, and evidence-based scientific papers, video content, podcast episodes, and more to help you explore Posttraumatic Growth (PTG):

At One Summit, we're inspired by their success and committed to advancing similar outcomes in the lives of the children and families we serve. Together, through different but connected missions, we are proving that growth after trauma is not only possible—it's powerful.
